What happens in cases of attempted cheating during exams?
The question refers to the framework study and examination regulations of Steinbeis University.
- If a student attempts to influence the result of his/her performance record or the result of another student through deception or the use of unauthorized aids, threats, the granting of advantages or bribery, or if he/she carries unauthorized aids with him/her after the task has been announced, the performance record in question shall be deemed to have been failed.
- Anyone who is guilty of a significant violation of the regulations of the performance record may be excluded from continuing the performance record in question by the respective examination supervisor. In this case, the performance record shall be deemed to have been failed. The examination board may additionally determine that participation in courses must be repeated in whole or in part. In serious cases which would justify the withdrawal of a university degree, the examination board may determine that the entire examination has been definitively failed. Further examinations to obtain the desired degree are thus excluded at Steinbeis University.
- If it is subsequently found that there has been deception, the PAS may change the corresponding grade to the student's disadvantage or declare the performance record wholly or partially failed if no more than two years have passed since the performance record was produced.
- The student must be given the opportunity to comment before an incriminating decision is made. Exonerating circumstances are to be taken into account. The student must be informed in writing of any onerous decisions and the reasons for them must be given.
- The decision on individual examinations or the entire examination or the determination of the degree as a whole can be subsequently corrected or withdrawn by the examination board if it becomes known that it was obtained by deception, use of unauthorized aids, threat, granting of an advantage or bribery. The incorrect performance records and graduation documents (certificate, diploma supplement and transcript) are to be confiscated.
- In order to verify the identity of a student in the context of the provision of a service, the student may be required to present his/her identity card or, in lieu thereof, another valid, official form of identification bearing a photograph.
