What exactly constitutes plagiarism?

The inquiry pertains to the regulations for studying and taking exams at Steinbeis University.

Students must make the following declaration at the beginning of all written work:

"I have written this written work independently and have not used any sources or aids other than those indicated. All passages taken verbatim or in spirit from other sources are identified as such."

This statement must be signed. "Other sources" also include written work written by the student as part of his/her studies, as well as essays and books published by him/her.

Plagiarism is when the work contains copies of other texts that have been used without citing the corresponding source. It is irrelevant whether the copies consist of only a few words or entire pages or originate from a book, magazine, newspaper, the Internet or other publications.

A commission appointed by the PAS will decide on the sanction to be imposed depending on the severity of the plagiarism. In the case of significant violations of the declaration made, legal action and/or a procedure for expulsion from the study program may be initiated.
