How Do Online Exams Work?
What Do I Need to Prepare? What Is the Exact Procedure? And What Else is Good to Know?
Approximately two weeks before each online exam day, you will receive an email from our Examination Office with important information about the exam process and a consent form attached. Please be sure to complete and return this consent form to the Examination Office no later than the day before the exam (a digital signature is sufficient).
Attention: Participation in the examination is not possible without the consent form!
The Procedure of an Online Exam
Preparation
-
Approximately two weeks before your exam you will receive an invitation email with a detailed guide from our partner, Pruefster (info@pruefster.com), on how to conduct online exams. Please also check your spam folder.
-
Use the Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browser.
Tip for limited installation rights:
If you have limited permissions on your work laptop, you can use Google Chrome Portable. It does not require any installation. This is especially useful if you are unable to install software due to restricted access.
System-Check
- You will be prompted to perform a system check in the invitation email, which is best done approximately 48 hours before the start of the exam. This allows enough time for you, Pruefster, and us to resolve any technical issues.
- Please follow the instructions provided as the process of the system check and online exam is well explained and easy to follow.
Security Process and Start of the Exam Processing Time
- After a successful system check, you can use the same link to access the actual exam. However, please note that the link will only be activated at the start of the exam.
Please note that this refers to Central European Time. If you are taking the exam from a different time zone, you must take into account the time difference.
-
Click on the session link, which will only be activated at the start time of the online exam.
-
Go through the security process by Pruefster.
-
After completing the security process, the exam will be released for you to begin: Click on the "Start Exam" button – the processing time will only start from this moment!
What you need to conduct your Online Exam:
-
Ensure that you have a laptop with a webcam, microphone, and speakers.
-
Your laptop should have an upload speed of at least 1Mbps.
-
You will need a smartphone with a camera, sufficient battery life, and a Wi-Fi connection.
-
Install a QR code scanner app on your smartphone.
-
You must use your webcam to identify yourself with a photo ID.
-
During the exam, you must be alone in a well-lit room.
-
Only authorized materials for the exam should be present at your workspace.
-
Close all other applications on your computer and do not have any additional browser tabs open during the online exam.
-
A timer will be displayed during the exam, but it's recommended to have an additional clock in case the timer is not visible due to screen resolution.
-
Remember to confirm your submission at the end of the exam and click the "End Exam" button.
-
You will be guided through all the steps during the system check and just before the exam, so you don't have to worry about making any mistakes.
Good To Know:
- The exact date and time of the exam will be provided in the invitation email.
- There will be only one link or invitation email, which you will use for both the system check and the actual exam.
- All students will start the exam at the same time.
- The exam questions will be provided by the lecturers responsible for the seminars you have attended.
- The duration of the exam will be mentioned in the respective invitation email.
- You do not need any additional hardware – an internet connection, a laptop with a camera, and a smartphone are sufficient.
- The permitted materials will be communicated in the email.
- It is generally recommended to avoid using the restroom during the exam. However, if you urgently need to use the restroom, please note that you cannot bring any items to your workspace and try not to be away for too long. Otherwise, your absence will be marked as "suspicious," and we will need to review your recording in more detail afterwards.
- Once the allotted time for the exam has passed, you must submit the exam. If you finish earlier, you can submit it earlier.
Technical Support
Important: During the system check and throughout the setup and execution of the exam, you will have access to technical support from Pruefster. If you encounter any issues with setting up or conducting the exam, it is important that you do not proceed and simply confirm that everything is running correctly. Instead, please utilize the technical support available through the blue chat window at the bottom right of the screen.
